Beta 1, 3-D glucan
As reviewed in our last article, many manufactures do not abide by specific manufacturing requirements to produce a high quality Beta 1, 3-D glucan product from bakers yeast (remember Beta 1 3 glucan in not not the proper term, neither is Beta glucan) therefore their products in most cases are useless. Most of these products you will see selling for $5 to $20 dollars, however you will find some over $80.
To produce a high quality, safe and effective product the proper manufacturing process must remove as much of the unwanted impurities as possible. These impurities are the other components found in the bakers yeast cell. Here are the impurities;
- Mannoprotein
- Lipids
- Nucleic Acids
- other cellular contents
In order to properly remove the unwanted impurities without destroying the 1, 3-D glucan linkage many steps are required in the production process. These steps increase the costs of the product, however the return on investment is also increase. The end results is that you get a high quality, safe, effective product that we can feel good about.

As you can see this process is far more involved then the standard, inferior manufacturing process.
In most cases you get what you pay for.
Verification of a high quality product.
Now this is where it get interesting. You will see many products claiming to be the purest, however what is it that they are claiming to be pure?
Is it the Beta glucan, or the Beta glucan complex, or the Beta 1, 3-D glucan? This is very important in determining whether or not it is a high quality, safe and effective product. 
This is what we have learned so far;
Article 1: Beta glucan
- FACT 1: The term Beta glucan does not necessarily mean you are purchasing a safe and effective product, and;
- FACT 2: The product must contain a specific "missing" Beta glucan linkage, and;
- FACT 3: The product must contain the proper amount of this linkage, and;
- FACT 4: The product must be pure as possible, with little or no impurities that would reduce the effectiveness or cause adverse reactions, and;
Article 2: Beta 1 3-d glucan
- FACT 5: Beta 1 3 glucan, or more popularly referred to as Beta 1, 3-D glucan is the ingredient required to "turn-on" the immune system. Independent research at many prestigious universities worldwide prove it.
- FACT 6: Bakers yeast is the most popular, and; researched source for producing a high quality Beta 1, 3-D glucan product, and;
- FACT 7: In order to produce a high quality, effective and safe product the unwanted components of the bakers yeast cell must be removed, as much as possible, without damaging the 1 3 glucan linkage, and;
- FACT 8: Almost all manufactures simply dry and/or grind bakers yeast, bottle it and call it a Beta glucan product, and;
- FACT 9: The label on a Beta glucan product is a good indicator to determine if it is a high quality, safe and effective product, however it should not be the only thing used in determining a good product, and;
