All of us want to maintain a high energy and vitality level as we age.
Work can leave us drained and tired. Stress is the most common factor for loss of energy and vitality especially among people who work everyday.
Energy and Vitality are keys in maintaing our daily life. They control the manner in which we move and perform. We need to do our best at maintaining the highest possible energy and vitality levels as we can. Below are tips that can help us achieve this much sought after goal.
1. Have light breakfast and dinner. Start your day off with fruits and finish with veggies. If you get the hungry feeling have a glass of water. It will give you that full feeling. Does it work? Try this; one evening just don’t eat anything and only take water. When you wake up in the morning do you feel good? Do you feel like you had a restful sleep? If you can answer yes to these questions then you have just proven for yourself that it works. Try to avoid “heavy” foods, i.e. meat and dairy as much as you can.
2. Drink plenty of water. Many people are dehydrated. They don’t drink enough water on a daily basis. Most people should drink at least 7 to 10 average sized glasses of water each day.
Some of the signs of dehydration are;
- Back pain
- Headaches
- Heartburn and stomach ache
- Mental irritation and depression
- Recurring or chronic pain
Stay away from anything that is not natural, like sodas and coffee. Tea is fine if it is real organic tea.
3. Lose weight. The lighter you are the better you feel. Try to maintain you proper BMI (body mass index). BMI is a measure of body weight as it relates to your height. It can be used to determine if people are at the proper weight, overweight, or obese. Below is a popular BMI calculator that you can use to determine if you are at the proper weight level.
BMI Results.
- Underweight = <18.5
- Normal weight = 18.5-24.9 Overweight = 25-29.9
- Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater
4. Stay in shape. Exercise is one means of increasing blood flow and oxygen. Try to exercise t least three times a week for 30 minutes. One study has shown that it can give you up to a two hour energy “high .”
5. Rest and relax. When you are feeling over burdened take a time out. Just a five to ten minute nap can do wonders for your energy levels. Try to train yourself to be aware as you fall asleep. Just as you reach that level wake yourself up and let yourself go again.
6. Stressed out? Talk to a loyal friend or family member. It will help keep things in perspective and “get that load off your mind”
7. Reduce the clutter. How modern has invaded our life’s. Do you really need everything modern technology has to offer? Look at the Amish, they still don’t have running water and are getting by just fine. While we might not want to go that far in removing ourselves from the conveniences modern technology has to offer, do we really need all that it has to offer?
8. Deep breathing. Remember when you were a child and you did a lot of deep breathing and you got light headed? Do you know why? You are increasing your oxygen intake when you breath deeply and your thoracic duct, part of the lymphatic system, is pumping lymph at a higher rate. The lymphatic system is a major component of the immune system. In adults, the thoracic duct transports up to 4 L of lymph per day. It helps you detoxify. The thoracic duct is considered the “heart” of our lymphatic system and it lies between your lungs. As you breath your lungs help it pump lymph.
