Cabbage leaf is a member of the flowering plant family which is known by the name Brassicaceae and also by the name Cruciferae. It is an herb which is grown both for culinary purposes and medicinal purposes. In some cultures, it is even grown to be used in religious or spiritual ways, having been given by certain religious groups a special spiritual meaning or power of some sort.

Cabbage leaf is what is known as a biennial plant, that is it takes from twelve to twenty-four months to complete its life cycle and then it dies.

The cabbage leaf as we know it today was first bred from a plant found in the Mediterranean area, that is, Europe , Asia and Africa , around 100 AD. Cabbage leaf was considered by both the Greeks and the Romans to be a very important vegetable. It is known primarily as a food, and has a historical reputation as being considered a food of the poor. It has what many people consider to be a strong, terrible smell and also has a reputation of producing flatulence.

Many medical doctors and other professional health care workers have stated that it is their opinion that clinical studies seem to indicate that cabbage leaf has a number of positive influences on the human body when consumed in its natural or raw state. Although not immediately thought of in that context by the general public, especially in the United States , cabbage leaf, is highly regarded for its positive influences on the human body when consumed in its natural or raw state in a large number of cultures around the world.

Cabbage leaf is considered a good additive to the human diet and to have a positive influence on maintaining a healthy bowel system and one which functions in a beneficial way to the human body. Cabbage leaf is known to possess sulphur, chlorine and iodine contents. Many medical doctors and other health care professionals believe that this combination aids in the cleaning of the mucus membranes which are found in the stomach and which are also found in the intestinal tract. Cabbage leaf is also considered by many medical doctors and other health care professionals to be a great source of aid in the maintenance of a healthy digestive system.

The cabbage leaf has also been used in the form of a compress which helps to maintain or to contribute to the restoration of healthy skin. Indigenous people in many areas have used it as a possible combatant against ulcers, infected sores, blisters and various kinds of skin eruptions, including psoriasis. Many medical doctors and other health care professionals are doing clinical studies on the cabbage leaf which they feel adds credence to the possibility of the cabbage leaf actually being of benefit when used for these purposes.
