N-Acetylcysteine is a chemical which is found in the human body as a thiol, that is a substance which contains both a sulphur atom and a hydrogen atom. It helps in the production of glutathione which is a powerful antioxidant, useful in stopping other oxidizing agents from oxidizing compounds which are needed for the proper functioning of a system.
N=Acetylcysteine has been used in hospitals, primarily in emergency room situations, as a substance which many health care professionals believe may be of assistance in the prevention of acetaminophen poisoning or as a substance which will assist in the counteraction against acetaminophen poisoning. N=Acetylcysteine has also been used since the early 1960's as a substance which many medical doctors and other health care professionals feel has a positive influence in the breaking up of mucus in the lungs.
N=Acetylcysteine is felt by many medical doctors and other health care workers to be useful in the prevention of colds and of influenza. It is also used by people who are into bodybuilding programs in order to help them to maintain the proper glutathione levels or to build up their glutathione levels should they become depressed. N=Acteylcysteine is also used by many people who have Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome otherwise known as AIDS, who also are known to have glutathione levels which have become depressed. N=Acteylcysteine can be used as either a preventative or to build the glutathione levels back up to their proper level.
Many medical doctors and other professional health care workers feel that studies seem to indicate that N=Acetylcysteine, taken in conjunction with vitamin C and vitamin B1 can actually be used to help to prevent hangovers caused by the consumption of alcoholic beverages or to help to alleviate such hangovers should they occur.
Some medical studies seem to indicate also that N=Acetylcysteine may also be helpful in the fight against cocaine addiction and also in removing mercury from the body.
Some medical doctors and other professional health care workers have also claimed that certain clinical studies made with animals seem to show a definite possibility that N=Acetylcysteine may be something which can prevent hearing loss that is caused by exposure to an excessive amount of noise.
N=Acetylcysteine has been shown to have positive effects in helping to keep the eyes healthy and moist when the immune system malfunctions and causes them to become dry and also in helping to keep the eyelids free from infection such as might happen from chronic Blepharitis, which effects the edges of the eyelids and the eyelash follicles. Studies show that N=Acetylcysteine may also help to combat oral disorders which tend to cause the mouth to lose moisture and be dry.
Some medical doctors and other professional healthcare workers feel that N=Acetylcysteine also helps to promote healthy colons.
N=Acetylcysteine is not found in any foods but is rather produced only in the body.
