Proanthocyanidins (grape seed extract) is a nutrient which belongs to what is referred to as the flavonoid family. Simply put, this means that proanthocyanidins (grape seed extract) belongs to a class of water soluble plant pigments. Proanthocyanidins (grape seed extract) are known to be antioxidants, that is they work to combat free radicals in the human body, either by reducing the energy of the free radicals, interrupting the oxidizing chain reaction of the free radicals, thereby minimizing the damage which they might possibly have been able to cause or perhaps in some cases being able to simply stop the free radicals from forming in the first place.
Grape seed extract is found referred to as early as the thirteenth century when a positive reference to the effects of red wine is made in a health book Regimen Sanitatis Salernitani written by Arnoldus of Villanova a thirteenth and fourteenth century researcher who is said to have been an alchemist, astrologer and physician. He is quoted as having written, "During meals, drink wine happily, little but often."
Grape seed extract, along with other flavornoids, is not considered to be or classified as an essential nutrient because its absence does not cause the body to experience a deficiency state. It is to be noted however, that many medical doctors and other professional health care workers consider proanthocyanidins (grape seed extract) and other flavornoids to have a large number of health benefits for the human body and not partaking of proanthocyanidins (grape seed extract) and other flavornoids means that the human being is depriving themselves of the health care benefits they might otherwise receive.
Many medical doctors and other professional health care workers have reported that they feel that clinical studies seem to indicate that proanthocyanidins (grape seed extract) helps the body to be better able to return blood from the feet and legs to the heart, maintain healthy blood vessels, contributes to keeping the human eyes in healthy condition, helps to keep the human pancreas operating properly, thereby contributing to the maintenance of a proper amount of chemicals and digestive enzymes, thereby helping to keep the digestive system healthy and operating properly. Many feel that studies seem to indicate that that proanthocyanidins (grape seed extract) also helps to maintain healthy intestines.
Many medical doctors and other professional health care experts feel that clinical studies seem to indicate that proanthocyanidins (grape seed extract) helps to maintain healthy, effective valves in the veins and healthy veins as well.
Proanthocyanidins (grape seed extract) may not be a necessity for the human body, since it does not occur there naturally, but it does appear to be of real benefit to the human body and to be a bonus given to us by nature.
