Resveratrol is a substance which is produced by a number of different plants. It was first isolated in 1974 from an extract of the Cassia quinquangulata, a tree which is native to Peru . Resveratrol's earliest use was as a substance that could be used as an antifungal, that is as a medication that can be used to treat fungus diseases, such as athlete's foot, Tinea, more commonly known as ringworm, Candidiasis, more commonly known as yeast infection or thrust and even a more serious disease, cryptococcal meningitis.

There are a number of medical doctors and other health care professionals who regard resveratrol as a wonder supplement and are seriously researching it along those very lines. They credit it as being a drug that will aggressively fight cancer, a number of viral diseases, as being anti-inflammatory and some even feeling that it is an anti-aging drug, to the point of actually having life prolonging affects.

Studies done by medical doctors and other health care professionals have shown that resveratrol made a significant lengthening difference in the life span of a certain type of yeast. Further studies showed that resveratrol also actually seemed to have expanded significantly the life span of a certain kind of worm as well as that of an ordinarily short living fish. A number of medical doctors and other health care professionals also felt that these same studies showed that resveratrol seemed not only to lengthen the life spans, but also to enhance the mental capabilities of both the worm and the fish, leading them to wonder if these same sort of capabilities might at some point be carried over to the lives of human beings and if resveratrol might also be used in combating the effects of various types of debilitating dementias.

Recent studies have been reported to show that reveratrol has a positive effect in the battle against neuronal cell dysfunction and cell death and may be a substance which can be used in fighting such diseases as Huntington's Disease and Alzheimer's Disease, both of which are characterized by serious, progressively debilitating dementia.

Some studies have also shown that resveratrol has a positive effect, some medical doctors and other health care professionals claiming up to 90%, in the battle against certain kinds of cancer.

Resveratrol can be found in the skins of certain kinds of red grapes as well as in peanuts, blueberries, Scott's pine tree, eastern white pine tree, in the roots and stalks of the Japanese knotweed and of the giant knotweed and in both green and black teas,

Some medical doctors and other professional health care workers have claimed to have found such positive abilities in resveratrol that they have actually retired from their other medical work and have dedicated their professional lives exclusively to the study of resveratrol.
